She Hates Loud Noises, Loves Loud Music

Do you know how the song “Hey Jude” ends? Of course, you do. It’s iconic and also cannot be avoided. It’s MINUTES of “Nahnahnahnah”’s and they make you feel so empowered when belting them to the top of your longs. Often in combination with alcohol or SoulCycle. Now here’s a better one for you; “The Boxer” by Simon and Garfunkle gave me the fucking feels tonight. It doesn’t go on nearly as long as “Hey Jude” does but nevertheless it’s over a minute of that repetition and it keeps that head nod going. We are also going to see “Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’” on this list because..duh.

I’m absolutely in love with a good “belt out your goddamn soul” kind of song. I mean, isn’t that why we all love “Livin’ On A Prayer”? (one of my original favorites from when I was just a kiddie discovering my voice). Tell me you’ve passed up the opportunity to scream “I never knew I cared until I met you”, and you can go to boring land where you belong. So I’ve decided to compile a list of the songs that give me the feels and hope there are ones I missed that people will recommend for me. These songs all have something in common. They build, they require you to hit the high notes, and they make you feel all of the things. I would say that some of these are just moments in the song whereas others are the entire song.

For anyone wondering what my taste in music is, which is about as random as it comes, this is a pretty good outline seeing as all of these are on the “Starred” playlist on my Spotify.

  • Hey Jude- The Beatles
  • The Boxer- Simon & Garfunkle
  • Gorilla- Bruno Mars
  • Someone To Love- Queen
  • Wait- M83
  • Lovin, Touchin, Squeezin- Journey
  • Shallow- Lady Gaga
  • How Far We’ve Come- Matchbox Twenty
  • Feeling Good- Michael Buble
  • A Total Eclipse of the Heart- Bonnie Tyler
  • Dancing Queen- ABBA
  • Sound of Madness- Shinedown
  • Alone- Heart
  • Don’t Go Breaking My Heart- Elton John
  • People Like Us- Kelly Clarkson
  • Head First- The Babys
  • Next To Me- Emeli Sande
  • If I Had You- Adam Lambert
  • I Try- Macy Gray
  • The Feel Good Drag- Amberlin
  • Should I Let You In- Belinda Carlisle
  • We Didn’t Start The Fire- Billy Joel
  • Blackout- Breathe Carolina
  • Vindicated- Dashboard Confessional
  • Do What You Have to Do- Sarah McLachlan
  • Round Here- Counting Crows
  • Heard The World- O.A.R.
  • To Be With You- Mr. Big
  • Sometime Around Midnight- The Airborne Toxic Event
  • That’s the Way It Is- Celine Dion
  • Anything Could Happen- Ellie Goulding
  • Believe- Mumford & Sons
  • Like I Can- Sam Smith
  • Our Own House- Misterwives
  • Push and Shove- No Doubt
  • Dog Days Are Over- Florence + The Machine
  • (okay, anything by Florence + The Machine)

I did not include “Sweet Caroline” or all of the other wedding song faves because we already know you get smashed on light beer and sing that one in your truck, Jimmy. It’s also about a pedophile.

So if you’re looking for a good cry, scream, dance, or workout song, try some of these. And post videos of yourselves hitting those high notes baby. Practice makes perfect. I also don’t really recommend listening to any of these below max volumes on those expensive Bose your grandma got you for your birthday. I’m peasant broke here so I’m just using my JBL and I often blow the cheap speakers in my POS car.
